About Build Your Own AI Personality

Syntrofos isn't one AI. It's a set of AI personalities you can choose between — and the tools to make any of them yours.

Some days you want a friend who'll talk through a decision. Some days you want something closer. Some days you want a coach who won't let you off the hook. Syntrofos gives you all of these as AI personalities — and lets you build your own when the presets aren't quite right.

Eight preset AI personalities

Each preset is more than a name. It's a set of traits — warmth, directness, formality, humour, the way it handles disagreement — that produce a recognisably different conversation.

  • Friend. Casual, supportive, talks to you like a friend would. Good default for most conversations.
  • Girlfriend / Boyfriend / Wife / Husband / Crush. Closer, warmer, more playful. Tuned for the kind of conversation people come to a companion for.
  • Motivator. Direct, energetic, holds you to your commitments. Good when you're trying to actually do something.
  • Listener. Quiet, reflective, mostly asks questions. Good when you want to think out loud and don't want a cheerleader.

Each preset is a starting point. None of them are locked. You can change any of them — and you can build your own from a blank slate.

What you can tune

Every personality is built from the same set of dials:

  • Traits. How warm, direct, formal, playful, curious, or cautious the AI is. Most users adjust two or three of these.
  • Speaking style. How long the answers tend to be, whether they use lists or prose, how much they hedge.
  • Tone. The emotional register — dry, warm, earnest, wry.
  • Humour. Light, dry, none, occasional. This one's the one people usually have the strongest opinion about.
  • What to avoid. Things you don't want the AI to bring up — certain topics, certain phrasings, certain jokes.

You don't have to touch any of this. The presets work. But if a preset is 80% right, the dials get you the rest of the way.

How customisation actually works

Most people tune their AI personality through conversation. You say:

> "Be a little less formal."
> "Push back on me more when I'm making excuses."
> "Don't use lists — I'd rather you just talk."

Syntrofos translates that into the trait settings behind the scenes. You don't have to know what "formality score 6" means. You describe what you want; the AI does the mapping.

If you want to look under the hood, every trait is also editable as a slider. Most users don't bother — but the option is there.

Multiple AI profiles per device

A single Syntrofos install can hold multiple AI profiles. Some users keep three:

  • A Friend profile for everyday chat
  • A Motivator profile for work and goals
  • A Closer profile for the kind of conversation they have late at night

Switching is a tap. Each profile has its own memory, its own traits, and its own personality. They don't share context — because the kind of conversation you have with your motivator isn't the kind of conversation you have with your friend.

This also makes it easy to share a device without mixing up who the AI is talking to.

When to use which personality

A rough guide, based on how people actually use Syntrofos:

  • Friend for default catch-up conversations — what was your day, what are you thinking about.
  • Girlfriend / Boyfriend / Wife / Husband / Crush for the conversation you actually came here for — connection, warmth, presence.
  • Motivator when you're stuck. Goal-setting, procrastination, the project you keep avoiding.
  • Listener when you want to process something out loud. Less back-and-forth, more "tell me more."

The boundary between these isn't strict. Plenty of users run a Friend profile with a Listener dial turned up, or a Motivator with the warmth dialed in. The presets are starting points.

Why customisation is the point

A "personality" in most AI apps is a thin costume over the same model. The presets are similar, the tone is generic, and there's no real way to change how it talks.

That's not what we wanted to build. A companion that knows you is, by definition, customisable — because the conversation that fits you isn't the conversation that fits someone else. The personality system is how Syntrofos gets specific to a person instead of staying generic.

Privacy and the personalities

Each personality lives on your device. The traits you set, the conversations you have, the way you tune it — none of that is shared, sold, or used to train other models. If you delete a personality, everything tied to it is deleted.

The presets are shipped to you. The customisations are yours.
